Description and Specifications

The Geissele Reaction Rod is a tool that securely holds an upper receiver assembly for maintenance and assembly work. By gripping the Reaction Rod in a bench vice either horizontally or vertically, the upper receiver can be slid onto the rod and the rod's integral spines enter the barrel extension and secure the barrel extension from turning. This keeps all torque force away from your aluminum receiver, preventing damage to the small, easily distorted receiver index pin. With the Geissele Reaction Rod, marring of an upper receiver's finish by gripping and twisting inside vise blocks is eliminated and so is the need to remove sights and mounts from the receivers M1913 rail. Machined at Geissele Automatic's state of the art manufacturing facility in Norristown, Pennsylvania, cut from a solid bar of 4140 Chome Moly Steel and properly quenched/tempered and ground to an exact diameter that is smooth and straight so the rod will enter an upper receiver without wobble.

CUSTOM BUILD
GREG from WI wrote on December 19, 2015:

I have done a few builds with a vise block, and this reaction rod will make your life so much easier. It will not put pressure on your upper. Every bit helps accuracy.

Won't fit
Charles Mackenzie from AL wrote on August 10, 2015:

It won't fit into the barrel extension even after a scary amount of effort. I was afraid I'd ruin my barrel extension. I was very disappointed.

I feel this works better than other products
N/A from IL wrote on August 10, 2015:

I felt so much safer using this than other upper vise blocks. Very stable for putting on a new barrel. I don't see this braking, only if dropped so be careful. Came in a plastic case. I did put the tool with the case in a tube for new barrels for extra protection. I will buy the AR10 for next build...

Great
Kyle C from SC wrote on August 10, 2015:

Worth the money. Used to install barrel and muzzle device without worry of damaging upper or breaking the index pin. Fits very securely into upper receiver on your feed ramps.

Good Too;
Blacksmith from N/A wrote on August 10, 2015:

The Reaction Rod is a good piece of kit for anyone who does more than basic maintenance on the AR platform. It allows assembly minimimizing stresses and allowing proper torquing. It is essential if assembling anything with an integrated rail such as the VLTOR VIS or Mega Monolithic.

Worth it's weight
N/A from N/A wrote on August 10, 2015:

I've used this on two builds and one rebuild so far. Amazing product. Very solid, and makes dis-assembly of those uppers that someone else has put together either with too much torque or something worse, a thread locker, much safer. Greatly reduces the chance of ruining an upper since the torque is on the barrel extension.

Heavy and Solid

Haven't used it yet, but very heavy and solid.

Geissele Reaction Rod

Used this for my first AR build and it was rock solid and made installing the barrel and flash hider a piece of cake. One nice feature is that once you have it in the vise you have no reason to mess with the vise until you are done. Saves time and hassle vs. something that you have to clamp around the receiver.

No Better Way
N/A from OK wrote on August 10, 2015:

If you work on your AR or multiple ARs this is the tool for you. Fast and easy setup and you can have your barrel off or on within minutes. No worrying about torquing and damaging your upper. Even the tightest barrel nuts are no match when the barrel is mounted on this. Great Geissele quality as usual. A must have for any armorers toolbox!

Works great
Chris from AZ wrote on August 10, 2015:

Very well made. Much better quality than those cheap knock-offs. Makes working on uppers much easier than using vice blocks.

Interesting new device
CW from MO wrote on August 10, 2015:

The Geissele Reaction Rod is built like a tank. So far all I've done with it is remove a muzzle device and barrel nut but it worked fine for that. However, if the device is not held vertically in the vice it will slip in the direction of the torque. Also the barrel will obviously slip off if the rod is angled downward.

Superb!
Scott Reid from WI wrote on August 10, 2015:

Expensive? Yes. Quality? Definitely! Much better option than using any other upper receiver type clamp. It fits snug, feels rock solid when attaching a barrel or compensator. Very happy with this purchase!

Excellent Tool

fit in upper is great, clamps in vise well. holds upper very tight, just have to keep upper pushed toward rod. worked great in 7.62x39 upper as well as 5.56/223, and 300 blackout.

Nate R. from N/A wrote on August 10, 2015:

It's a solid piece of bar stock cut to engage the locking lugs of the barrel extention on an ar15. Works as advertised to take stress off of the aluminum frame and places it on the infinitely more solid barrel. When tightening barrel nuts and brakes.

It's a little shorter than expected but other than that it was just as described shipped and delivered very quickly will definitely order from them again

Thomas from TX wrote on August 10, 2015:

The Reaction Rod is the most professional and sturdiest method available for working on anything on the upper. From barrel nuts and rails to muzzle devices on SBR's where there isn't any barrel to clamp, this is the only way to go. I fully expect this tool to outlive me. It's that well built.

A "must have" for every AR armorer
Dieterich from TX wrote on August 10, 2015:

Absolutely perfect tool for installation/removal of muzzle devices, handguards, barrel nuts, and more. Any time you need to securely hold your upper for maintenance, this tool does the job.

Heavy Duty; Excellent Quality
Smud from NE wrote on August 10, 2015:

A bit pricey compared to the competition, but you get what you pay for when you purchase from Geissele. Buying twice, though, is false economy, so this tool gets it right the first time. Fast processing and shipping from PA, as is their norm.

Fast shipping, Excellent Quality
N/A from N/A wrote on August 10, 2015:

After I ordered I got a shipping confirmation in 20mins talk about fast. This product is just what i needed to install my muzzle brake on my ar. The quality is as expected coming from Geissele.

Solid tool
David from TX wrote on August 10, 2015:

Haven't had a chance to build with it yet, but it's a solid looking tool and I have no doubt it will perform with the quality Geissele is known for.

EXCELLENT PRODUCT
Mark N from WA wrote on August 10, 2015:

PRIMARY Arms had the best price and I received my Geissele rod quickly. With the increase in the number of manufactures making billet lowers it gets expensive buying different mounts for each one. The G rod works on all of them without worrying about scratching the finish or putting undue stress on, what can at times, be a very expensive lower. If you had a "unicorn" lower would you trust it to a cheap delron and pin mount?

A top of the line tool
Bill A from LA wrote on August 10, 2015:

I guess for the price of this piece I was expecting a lot . I was not disappointed. This is a finely crafted and finished tool. That should come in handy for years to come. It's a much better way to do barrel work and upper receiver work than with the prior clamp and poly insert I was using before. Can u do the work without it? Yes. Does this thing allow you to do it like a pro and with ease and less likelyhood of damaging your upper? A most definite yes. Good purchase.

Great tool.
Daniel Stanton from LA wrote on August 10, 2015:

Super easy to use. Excellent quality. Relieves any concerns about placing stress on an upper receiver when removing or installing a barrel nut.

Fantastic tool, priced too high
Kevin H from TX wrote on July 31, 2015:

This tool does just what it says. It is fantastic to safely install and remove muzzle devices, and makes working on gas blocks quick work. I do have concerns about the pressure placed on the indexing pin when using this to install barrel nuts as opposed to an action block.
