Description and Specifications

Spike's Tactical AR-15/M16 Nickel Boron Bolt Carrier Group. These complete bolt carrier groups come magnetic particle inspected and high pressure tested. The carrier is made from 8620 steel and the bolt from No. 158 carpenter steel. The gas key is properly staked, the extractor spring has been upgraded with an O-ring for increased tension, and all surfaces are coated with nickel boron. Nickel boron is much easier to clean and can help your firearm run more reliably when heavily fouled or with little lubrication. The Spike’s Tactical spider logo is engraved on the right side of the carrier to show through the ejection port.

Awsome BCG !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Brian from OR wrote on September 18, 2016:

No regrets. I got mine when it was on sale. This is one fine BGC, smooth like buttah. Fast shipping too! Highly recommended!

Extremely Dissapointed
Chris from FL wrote on September 13, 2016:

I had the exact same problem as others have reviewed. After about 20 rounds the BCG would not cycle the next round. I took out the BCG to find that the gas key was loose. It was not properly staked. Do not buy this BCG.

Not worth it...
Todd from MO wrote on August 27, 2016:

The gas key was not properly staked (looked like they barely tapped it on one side of both screws which btw are cheap imported fasteners that are known to have issues! I thought Spikes bcg's were of better quality than this but I guess I was wrong!

You Call That Staking On That Gas Key?
Adam from MI wrote on August 03, 2016:

First of all, this review is NOT a shot at Primary Arms. Order process was fast and easy, and I received the package in only 3 days. Big shout out to Primary Arms there. As far as the bolt carrier group, upon inspection, nearly everything was top notch; extractor spring had the rubber filling, finish was clean, bolt itself looked to be in great shape. However, we all know that properly staked gas keys are important to overall trusted function and longevity. Well, this gas key is NOT properly staked. I trust the staking on the BCG that came with my S&W M&P Sport II over this. Very disappointing. I guess I'll keep this as a back up, bite the financial bullet, and get a BCM. Come on, Spikes. You're better than this.

Revised for - DID NOT CYCLE
Anthony from CA wrote on July 27, 2016:

Hello everyone, recently I wrote a review for this bolt because I received a bad one and it would not cycle and broke pieces of my AR15. Today I write a review revitalizing that one and letting you all know that I got a good one, it functions and works fantastically! The one I received was really clean and looked great, I function tested it with snap caps prior to going to the range and all was well. Went to the range and fired 1 shot, reloaded then 2 reloaded then 3 reloaded etc. Everything went through flawlessly as well as a rapid fire test. Took the bolt out after shooting and all was well, cleaned it back up oiled it up and it was good as new. This bolt is a great buy assuming you get one that works, going to give it 4 stars because it came pretty and this one worked, only 4 not 5 because my first one did not function. Good Job Spikes Tactical!

Did not Cycle
Anthony from CA wrote on July 12, 2016:

I took my newly built rifle (First build I have done) to get safety checked by a Gun Smith since I have never built a rifle before. They were going through the safety check and everything checked out they said rifle was built perfectly and everything was great also passed the head space test (Go/No Go). Went to do the Test Fire (the final test) and after 3 shots the bolt would not cycle it seized. They took it apart and there was metal shavings and my buffer tube was destroyed. They got a new buffer tube and took the rifle apart and cleaned/re-oiled everything then put it back together. Tried to fire again and the BCG would not cycle again, they changed out the BCG with a different one they had on hand (Stag) and it worked perfectly fine and passed all the tests. Pretty sure this was due to mass production however I am upset that I am out of 200 bucks because it was not properly inspected and was not in spec. Will purchase a different BCG, in the mean time I have a Stag standard BCG in my rifle. Only thing this bolt had going for it was it looked pretty....

Danzig from CA wrote on February 05, 2016:

Have had this BCG for some time. NiB will discolor over time, totally normal, still slick as hell. mine is a burnt brownish yellow chrome color and still functions well. if people are buying this expecting not to clean it you're dreaming.

Not as easy to clean as I was hoping for
Matt S from N/A wrote on August 10, 2015:

Used this BCG for the first time this past weekend. Shot 120 rounds and although it shot just fine I could not tell any difference in performance or ease of cleaning between it and my stock Daniel Defense BCG. Kind of disappointing for the $$ I spent....There is nothing functionally wrong with this BCG but I'm giving it two stars because IMO the nickel-boron coating seems to be a bit of snake oil.

Blemished Finish
Giovanni 2014 from PA wrote on August 10, 2015:

Purchased one of these brand new and when it arrived I was surprised to find what looks liked small, but obvious rust spots showing through the carrier's finish. I could feel these spots with my fingernail, but couldn't clean off with any kind of solvent. Something must of happened during the NiB process to cause this because this finish is supposed to be very corrosive resistant. Primary Arms worked fast to put me in contact with Spike's who quickly handled the situation well and had me send in the BCG for a new one. However this took an additional 2 weeks time to complete. The replacement bcg I received has a better looking, flawless finish and seems to work great.

Nicholas Case from N/A wrote on August 10, 2015:

Finished my build and put it in and it was great, until I function checked. When I let the hammer fall it jammed, would not extract and the bolt would not rotate even with heavy lube. Took disasembly and force, tried it in factory Colt, DD, and Stag. Same prob. My BCM bcg works fine in my build, but wanted NiB. The part I got seemed to be machined to the wrong specs (I know that FailZero coats some of these products, and I read a post by their head gunsmith that stated that if the bcg does not fit you need to have your headspace checked that it is not match grade and is instead mil spec as these bcg's are patterned after Colt style rifles... But it would not work in my colt?). Returned to PA for refund. They are out of stock. How does that even leave Spikes Tactical not functioning? I have to add that PA is still the great. They handled it well, gave me return shipping labels and a full refund. I will try another when in stock.

Not as good as my WMD BCG.
Jon from FL wrote on August 10, 2015:

First of all, hats off to Primary Arms for their wicked fast shipping and great customer service. I have a WMD BCG that is nickel boron as well and it cost the same as this Spikes BCG. I have to say that the machining and tooling is better on the WMD BCG. This is a nice BCG, but for the same money I would buy the WMD instead next time. The firing pin, gas key bolts, gas rings, firing pin retaining pin, ejector and extractor pin are not coated in nickel boron on the Spikes BCG. Everything on the WMD BCG with the exception of the springs and gas rings is coated in nickel boron. The Spikes spider logo doesn't stand out as much as I thought it would. There doesn't seem to be much attention to detail either. The finish on the gas key is rough and the tooling and machining isn't anything special. I was expecting a higher quality BCG for $180.00. Over all it's a good BCG, but it will be my last.

Been waiting for the price drop
John from TX wrote on August 10, 2015:

I like Spike's BCG's they are well made. While I wouldn't pay $209 for one, I will spend $169. I have been waiting for these to go on sale for an all Spikes build I was working on. I still replace the extractor spring with the BCM spring, now its perfect!

After years in the US Army (now retired) and having had BCG's in M16 that always seemed to get so horrible dirty after shooting on ranges. I wanted to make life easier for me with my Ar15 at home. The BCG coated with Nickel Boron is like nothing I've ever dealt with before. It is truely awesome and can be cleaned almost just by wipeing with a clean rag. A must have for anyone who's concerned with making easy in the cleanup after firing!

Great product!

Looked good...
CW from N/A wrote on August 10, 2015:

BCG looks good, slightly different than the last Spikes NibX I got, different machining/look... But still a quality piece. The first I got was missing a gas ring and the remaining rings were damaged, but PA took care of me... This BCG came complete, but has more of a rough overall appearance. Happy with it though.

Runs great, cleans easy. Primary Arms has the fastest shipping known to mankind, but they don't include any free swag(tshirts, stickers, patches) if I ordered my Geissle trigger from the manufacturer is get a whole swag bag. I put in a 700 dollar order, I thought I would get a sticker atleast.

Oh yeah!!!!!

This thing is as smooth as a baby's butt. And the spider logo on it adds some cool factor to it. Don't bother with the lightweight version that spikes offers as it is BARELY lighter than this one. Pretty dumb actually. Buy this one. You will love it.
