Sam Browne police duty belts are named after British General Samuel Browne. They originally referred to a specific type of military belt with a shoulder strap worn diagonally. The design was so secure that one could draw a cavalry sword mounted to the belt with a single hand.
Although modern Sam Brownes no longer feature the shoulder strap, the modern designs and materials provide a snug, secure fit to the wearer’s body.
