With PCC competitions on the rise, many are curious about how to set up a 9mm AR for the 3-gun scene.
And who wouldn't want to shoot an AR-9? They're a lightweight, inexpensive, and are a great fit for experts and beginners alike.
With this in mind, we’re here to show you that you can build a competition-ready PCC without busting your budget. The best part is, this PCC could be yours! In this Giveaway, the winner will receive the FM9 3-Gun PCC, and lots of extras that you'll want to read about below.
For your quick reference, We have included a table belo detailing all of the parts in this build.
FM9 3-Gun PCC
We said 3-Gun-Ready PCC right out of the box, and we’re sticking to it.
Foxtrot Mike Products makes a purpose-built 3-Gun PCC that meets all the demands of competition. Precision machined with a lightweight construction, users can expect superior accuracy and reliability with a natural point. This carbine also features FM Products rail scales on a slim MLOK handguard, so you can get a tight grip for superior recoil control.
The FM Products 3-gun PCC includes a PWS muzzle brake to further cut down on muzzle rise, so you can stay on target and deliver rapid fire hits without fighting to reacquire your target.
Overall, the FM 3-Gun PCC is a fantastic choice to break into competition. It has all the expected features of a competition gun at an affordable price. Of course, there are always a few ways you can spice it up a bit with some aftermarket upgrades.
Lower Parts Upgrades
While the FM 3-Gun PCC’s PNT trigger is fine, an aftermarket match trigger will further reduce the weight and reset for quicker splits.
To go that extra mile, we installed a CMC Triggers AR-15 Drop-In Single Stage 9mm PCC Trigger, featuring a standard curve a 3.5lb pull weight. We’ve used the CMC Triggers products in many of our builds, and we’re always pleased with the quality. For this PCC, it helped keep us on track with our target through every trigger pull, improving both speed and accuracy.
In addition to the trigger, we added a Talon Ambidextrous Safety Selector 2-Lever Kit from Radian Weapons. You never know when you’ve got to go lefty, and aftermarket selector levers are a great quality-of-life improvement on any gun.
Glock Mags with Extended Baseplates
One great aspect of our FM Products 3-Gun PCC is that it uses standard Glock magazines. Naturally, we’ve included 3 of the 33-round mags, ensuring that you have plenty of fuel to make it through any stage.
… but if that’s not enough, every mag gets a +10 base pad, ensuring that you absolutely have enough ammunition on deck. Naturally, we decided to go with a red base plate, since everyone knows red mags are the fastest.
Primary Arms SLx Advanced Rotary Knob Microdot
Speed is everything for 3-Gun PCCs, so any competition build deserves a lightweight red dot.
Our SLx Advanced Rotary Knob Microdot offers that speed advantage at an incredible value. It’s durable, boasts a long battery life, and uses the common microdot mounts for added flexibility. With this dot, a competitor can acquire their targets with confidence, knowing their optic can hold up to the stresses of barricades and double taps.
Primary Arms 3x LER Magnifier Gen IV
If the course of fire needs a little bit more precision, we include a 3x magnifier to help even the odds. Used in tandem with the microdot, this magnifier helps extend your range to make pinpoint shots out to 100 yards and more. —plenty of extra distance for the 9mm cartridge.
Some stages don’t need a magnifier, but that’s never a problem with a 30mm flip mount from Scalarworks.
We’ve outfitted both the microdot and magnifier with Scalarworks LEAP mounts, which can quickly detach to meet the needs of the stage. Even so, these mounts are some of the most rugged in the industry, and the unique thumb-wheel fastener keeps the mounts lightweight.
It’s rare to find a product that elevates both durability and weight-savings, but Scalarworks really raises the bar with their LEAP system.
MBUS Pro Backups
In case something truly catastrophic occurs mid-stage, we’ve got one last trick up our sleeve.
The Magpul MBUS Pro foldable back-up sights can be deployed for a last-ditch sighting system. We don’t think you’ll need them, but these sights are light enough to include for that ‘just in-case’ scenario.
Your gun is only one part of the 3-Gun puzzle, though.
To really stand out on game-day, you’ve got to be fully prepared. With that in mind, we are adding a Drago Gear Pro Range bag to help carry your carbine and all the necessary accoutrement (that's French for "sweet extras"). Speaking of extras in this giveaway...
Hearing and Eye Protection
Most folks don’t think of their protective equipment as a competitive advantage, but situational awareness rewards well-crafted glasses and ear muffs.
To keep your eyes safe, we’ve added a Magpul Radius Black-Frame with the Gray Lenses for a balance of protection, color perception, and glare reduction. Whether you’re in rain or shine, these glasses will keep your vision clear and safe from fragmentation or ricochets. Plus, they just look plain stylish.
Your hearing protection is another important piece of kit. In competition, you want to be able to hear every detail possible, from range officer commands to your own gun’s functions. Peltor hearing protection rates among the best for durability and clarity, so their Sport Tactical 500 Electronic Hearing Protection is a great match for range day.
All this kit is great, but it’s only as good as the competitor behind it.
If you want to really dominate in the 3-Gun circuit, you’ve got to get some time in at the range, so no kit could be complete without 1000 rounds of 9mm. That’s right! We’re throwing in an extra 1000 rounds just to keep you fully stocked for range day.
Once you’ve burned through that 1000 rounds, you’ll probably want to clean the gun off.
Regular cleaning and lubrication are important in ensuring the reliability of your firearm for competitive use, so we’ve included the king of cleaning kits. The Otis Elite 60-Piece Cleaning kit is probably a bit of overkill, but we’ve never been corner-cutters on our setups. No matter how many rifles you’ve stocked up, this cleaning kit will give you everything you need to maintain them in perfect condition.
There you have it! A fully featured PCC build that’s ready to impress in a competition of your choosing.
