The FN 509 with flat dark earth (FDE) frame is the result of FN America’s design for the US Army’s XM17, the Modular Handgun System. With more than 100 years of firearms excellence and a supplier of U.S. Army M4 rifles, FN America brings expertise in ruggedly reliable and modular design to the civilian market, as evidenced by the 1 million rounds FN reports to have expended in testing this handgun. This next generation semi-automatic 9mm pistol presents a strong entry into a competitive field, fully capable of home defense, self-defense, target shooting, competition, and whatever else you may require from it.FN designed the FN 509 with a solid foundation, the well-regarded FNS series of pistols. It’s visually similar at a brief glance but despite many similarities with the FNS-9, the FN 509 boasts several design improvements across the interior and exterior to ensure outstanding reliability in every conceivable condition. The FN 509, true to the U.S. Army’s Modular Handgun System goals, allows fully ambidextrous use with identical magazine releases and slide locks on both sides of the firearm, as well as significant improvements to ergonomics. The improved grip ergonomics include a slimmer, less blocky profile, optimized grip texturing, and replaceable backstraps that are made to fit a wide variety of hand sizes and preferences.

The FN 509 features ambidextrous controls with left and right-side magazine releases and slide locks. Capable of full operation in either hand, the FN 509 is perfect for left handed shooters or for personal protection where switching hands can be critical. FN has a strong history of producing fine barrels and the FN 509 is no exception. The 4” cold hammer forged barrel includes a recessed target crown, which protects the lands and grooves in one of the most vulnerable areas that is vital for maintaining consistent accuracy and bullet stabilization. The trigger breaks cleanly between 5 and 7 lbs after a smooth take-up, with a short, positive, and audible reset. There is no grit, no excessive slop, or sponginess present here. The low bore axis of the design keeps felt recoil low and muzzle flip to a minimum.
