Actually, A Great AR10 Upper!

by -

After building dozens of AR15's, I decided to put together an AR10, mostly because PA had Ghost uppers & lowers on sale and this upper closely matches the Aero no-FA upper I use on my AR15's. This is a quality part. Mine fit the Ghost lower perfectly. I've found mixing & matching uppers & lowers to be hit or miss, even with the (supposedly) standardized AR15 - some are sloppy & others won't fit together, so I try to stick to keeping both receivers from the same manufacturer. The machining was excellent, the finish was good, all parts installed without slop or binding. The finished rifle works fine. I'm going to buy another set in case I want another AR10!

Decent finish but fit is unacceptable.

The holes for takedown pins are way over sized. The upper moves and rattles around on all lowers that I have tried. AR10 is not standardized, but take down pin dimensions are all the same. This upper moves forward and backward as well as up and down on both the front and rear takedown pins by about 0.02 which is very noticeable. I measured the holes on all my uppers, and these were by far the largest by at least 0.01".
