So you’re at the range with your newly built AR 10 with all of the bells and whistles. Your optic is zeroed, bipod nicely set up, and you’re ready to see what this great platform can do. Carefully, you get a sight picture and press the trigger. The round goes off, hits where you expect it, but something isn’t quite right. The bolt cycled back, but no casing came out and, worse, a new one tried to feed, and you have one monster of a jam on your hand. What gives? 
It may well have been your Ejector Retaining Pin. This pin, as the name implies, keeps the ejector where it needs to be to grab the lip of the casing and spit it out of the way when the bolt cycles. In building your AR, you may have either overlooked this or, through use, it got broken and fell out. Perhaps you need to install a new ejector. Taking out old or broken pins can be a bit of a hassle, so we recommend a rubber vice, a small set of punches, and some good lighting. If you currently have no pin at all, these go in with a simple, but gentle, press with a short punch.
