Ruger, a world leader in firearm manufacture continues to take its place at the head of the pack with this compact 9mm pistol. What strikes you when you first see this pistol is the unbelievable care Ruger design teams took to build a functional and yet stylishly sleek and attractive firearm.

  • Slide Material: Stainless Steel
  • Caliber: 9mm
  • Grips: Ergonomic Wrap-Around Grip Modules
  • Overall Length: 6.65”
  • Weight: 29.2 Ounces
  • Magazine: Comes with two (12 round and 17 round)

One think that literally jumps out at first inspection is the curvature at the base of the grip and the modular wrap-around grip system for adjustment of palm swells and trigger reach. Designed to fit a wide range of hand sizes, the ergonomic grip modules lock in solidly and do not loosen. With the American Compact Ruger gets as close to one-size-fits-all as possible.

Besides staring at the marvelous construct, you might want to load up one of the two nickel-Teflon® plated steel magazines (you get your choice of a 12 round and a 17) and after fitting the best grip module for your hand, take this classic compact out for a spin at the range.

Trust us; this Ruger American Compact is not just another pretty face.

One of the first things you’ll notice on that first trigger pull is how smoothly you got the first shot off. That’s because Ruger designed this firearm with a Pre-tensioned striker system that features a powerful striker spring for positive ignition without the need for such a heavy trigger pull.

Since recoil is traditionally a concern with a compact often making it a little bit difficult to group your shots with any consistent accuracy, Ruger stepped it up a notch by designing the barrel cam to distribute the recoil forces over a longer period of time. What this means to you is you fire more without suffering the effects of felt recoil. More importantly, you will more than likely hit what you’re aiming at.

That’s such a novel concept which brings us to the sights on this little firecracker. The Ruger American Compact comes with Genuine Novak® LoMount Carry three-dot sights with an especially wide rear notch for rapid sight acquisition and alignment on the target. But if you’re a shooter who needs a little “sight” assistance especially at night, the American Compact MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny rail acts as a mounting point for a ton of standard lights and lasers.

With all of these features the American Compact has another special design plus that you probably don’t think about at the time, but you’re really glad to have it when you realize it. Ruger went all in on this firearm, designing both the magazine and the safety to be operated ambidextrously.

In other words, it doesn’t matter whether you’re gripping this little beauty with your left hand or right, you can still effortlessly eject a spent magazine or engage or disengage the safety with either hand.

In its price range, the Ruger American Compact is one of the better firearm purchases you’ll make.
