Did not Cycle
by Anthony
I took my newly built rifle (First build I have done) to get safety checked by a Gun Smith since I have never built a rifle before. They were going through the safety check and everything checked out they said rifle was built perfectly and everything was great also passed the head space test (Go/No Go). Went to do the Test Fire (the final test) and after 3 shots the bolt would not cycle it seized. They took it apart and there was metal shavings and my buffer tube was destroyed. They got a new buffer tube and took the rifle apart and cleaned/re-oiled everything then put it back together. Tried to fire again and the BCG would not cycle again they changed out the BCG with a different one they had on hand (Stag) and it worked perfectly fine and passed all the tests. Pretty sure this was due to mass production however I am upset that I am out of 200 bucks because it was not properly inspected and was not in spec. Will purchase a different BCG in the mean time I have a Stag standard BCG in my rifle. Only thing this bolt had going for it was it looked pretty....
Extremely Dissapointed
by Chris
I had the exact same problem as others have reviewed. After about 20 rounds the BCG would not cycle the next round. I took out the BCG to find that the gas key was loose. It was not properly staked. Do not buy this BCG.
Staking
by Johnnie
I also received a bcg that was not properly stake it looks like it was barely tapped I contacted spikes a while ago and never got a reply back. I think I'll try a chrome one from rainier or phosphate from bcm
Not worth it...
by Todd
The gas key was not properly staked (looked like they barely tapped it on one side of both screws which btw are cheap imported fasteners that are known to have issues! I thought Spikes bcg's were of better quality than this but I guess I was wrong!
Spikes Tactical Nickel Boron BCG - you won't regret it
by CG3 -
This is the 2nd Spikes Nickel Boron BCG that I've purchased in the last year and both are great. Perfect finish with no tool marks. Tight gas keys and bolts properly staked. Have not had a problem with either. And Primary Arms fast shipping makes for a perfect transaction.
Quality BCG
by Brandon -
I’m not sure what the other reviewers are talking about. I ordered this BCG from primary arms and it has functioned flawlessly for me EVERY TIME. I use this BCG in my patrol rifle, so I EXPECT it to work. It hasn’t let me down. Sure, you need to clean it and it has lost some of its color over time, but that’s normal. I have ran this thing on very little to no oil and it still spits out brass without complaint. Some guys like their bolts dripping with oil, it isn’t necessary with this one. Buy and you won’t regret it.
Good value
by Mister Jay -
I own two and they do what they’re made to after several hundred rounds fires no problem.
Cleans easier but still needs lots of lub
by Jmann -
At one time claims were that nib needed no lub. But of course, that is ridiculous, if you care anything about your gas rings, cam pin, etc.
Spikes delivers.. as usual
by Chris -
I learned on my 1st build ever many years ago, no other BCGs compare to Spikes Tactical.. especially the NiB versions. HPI / MPI tested, NiB coating perfect. Functions flawlessly as expected. I will never stray from Spikes for bolt carrier groups, doesn't matter the finish either as I have them all and every one of them in 11 ARs have never once let me down. Nothing but the best.
buy once cry once
by Moxley -
I shoot alot!! no BS 10 to 15k 556 a year. cheap parts kits fail, cheap bolts fail. I purchased this bolt September of 2020 by Christmas i had just over 7k rounds and zero cleaning on the rifle. The bolt was absolutely nasty when i broke the rifle down to clean, But everything just wiped right off. No scrubbing to clean. I should mention i had zero malfunctions with my AR. this bolt preforms. since January 2021 to current i have ran this bolt over 10 more k rounds in more than 8 various AR operators courses. Its absolutely impressive that the spike's bolt continues to preform. From purposely inducing malfunction, running gunning, heat, and drills after drills and I have yet to brake any piece of this BCG.
seriously spend the money.
