What makes the Defenders Series XD different from the standard XD9 model is in the grip size. This features a full size grip that can hold a 16 round magazine but still uses the same 4” barrel. The full size grip offers great ergonomics and a tactile texture for better recoil management and weapon control. It also features a striker indicator that is easy to see, so you know if there is a round in the chamber. An ambidextrous magazine release and light rail round out the full size polymer frame on the Springfield Defenders Series XD 4” pistol.

The slide is made from forged steel with a durable Melonite finish—same as the barrel—and features forward and rear serrations. The dovetailed 3 dot sights are machined from steel and the rear sight has a steep angle for one handed slide manipulations.
