So Good I Bought Two
by Bryan -
This upper has been great. To start it looks really nice, no flaws in the finish anywhere. You can see where the break was ground down on the muzzle break, but only if you're looking for it. Sights are nice, rail is solid, and the whole package is a good deal.
The 11" rail is perfect, light, and without all the bulk. 14.5" barrel is great, and if you've got to have a welded break, might as well get the most super fly one around, you can see the flash out the sides and the smoke roll in on itself.
I just ordered a second one. Also, Primary Arms ships fast, and most importantly, gives a rip about its customers. Regarding another purchase, emails were returning in twenty minutes, on a Friday at 5.45pm, and phone calls were made to me, out of their own concern, to make sure I was happy. Kind of takes you by surprise these day, but sure is welcome. Thanks PA.
Tier 1 quality at bottom of the barrel pricing
by Anthony -
Super high quality. With the included bcg/sights, it drops this down to a $250-300 upper. Any other lower in this price range is going to be garbage Chinese made stuff or really basic. Impossible to beat this deal. I looked for over two months and didn't find anything close. You can save $20-$30 by buying some off brand with cheap handguards, 7075 upper, low quality barrel and no sights.
Two complaints however. 1. The finish on the BCG is super rough and gritty. I'm probably just used to old marine corps A4s that have a bunch of rounds through them that made the finish smooth though.
2. There's no markings on the barrel. No caliber, manufacturer, or twist rate anywhere on the barrel.
Will update with a range review in a couple of days.
Absolutely top notch quality
by Marcus -
I bought this upper as opposed to a more expensive option, however was unsure if I was going to be completely satisfied. Well...I can say this is an affordable top notch option, that will not likely remain affordable long. I don’t know how they did it, but Troy nailed the quality for an awesome price point. If you are on the fence, Trust me Troy delivers on this upper. And as always, awesome shipping speed Primary ARMS.
Nothing even close in value
by Anthony -
Phenomenal deal. The sights, BCG, and muzzle device is about a $300 addition, so you're essentially only paying $150 for a high quality upper. You can't even buy some no name garbage for that.
Only complaints are the BCG has a really rough finish and there are no barrel markings anywhere.
Took her out today and she ate 200 rounds of Remington UMC with 2 different P Mags and 6 old, beat up GI mags without a single malfunction.
Didn't do any accuracy testing, but I was grouping at about 1", standing, at 50 yards. I would be willing to bet this is at least a 1 MOA upper with good ammo and a bench or prone position.
Very nice for the price

1. I would like to thank primary arms for the fast processing and shipping,I ordered it on wensday and got ir here the next day(granted I did pay the extra 20 for next Day shipping because I wanted to have this upper before Easter..

2.The upper is fantastic and a huge deal, just like everyone else said the sights and bolt are like $300+ by itself..
My barrel did come with marking on it "Troy 556 1:7"..everything looked great no blemishes EXCEPT The bolt carrier group, just like mentioned by the other reviewers, the BCG was pretty rough and not as slick as other bolt carriers that I have had..no big deal I'll still rate 5stars....nice pinned and welded 14.5in upper
Get a ton of bang for your buck.

I’ve taken this upper out to shoot a couple times now and it’s been great. Feels very nice and manaverable, looks good, shoots good, and not a single reliability issue. Would definitely recommend for someone who wants a great feeling good value target or defensive rifle.
Pretty freaking good

This upper feels like a mid-engine sports car. I know that may sound like a strange analogy, but there is very little polar moment of inertia, it just points where you want it to, and does so very quickly. Lots of little details, like staked gas pin hex bolts and dialed in sights from the factory. Very clean pin and weld job, better than other companies I have dealt with. When I cleaned the bcg before using it I could tell it was test fired, which in my experience is a very good thing. It is a complete package at a fair price. Btw it is a mid length gas system, not a carbine, and the bolt is a semi instead of M-16 cut. Not that it really matters, this is one of those rare value driven uppers where the whole is much greater than the sum of its parts.

Like the upper but not sure if I can use it. There is no pin or weld on the flash hider. And the gas system is not carbine. I'm a little pissed about that. There goes spare parts compatibility.
Wishing I would have went with a different brand.
From PA: We're very sorry about this. It looks like Troy mispacked a few of these with mid-length gas systems. These are pinned and welded, however, Troy just does a very clean job on the pin and weld.
Disregard my last review 😌

Gave a poor review after the purchase. PA costomer service was outstanding. I have now run around 500 rounds through this upper and love it more and more. I still consider this to be it's break in period, but zero malfunctions so far and loving it. Last range trip she ate 200 rounds as fast as I could load the four magazines I brought. She stayed smoking hot and kept chugging. This rifle is awesome!👍
One Year Update
by Bryan -
I wanted to drop another review on here a year into it, given I like these uppers so much. Fit an finish is still great 1,500 rounds in. A couple things to note:
- BCG is still great with no major wear.
- Hand guard is without issue, its my favorite of all the ones I've used.
- Upper has a little wear inside at the cam pin cutout, nothing unusual.
- Gas block actually has staked set screws, I hadn't noticed that before, pretty nice of them.
- Muzzle brake is still great, I can hardly make out the grind after the factory's finish on it.
- Upper to lower fit is a little looser than some other uppers I've got, but nothing crazy sloppy.
I enjoy the 14.5" barrel on this more than my 16" barrels, I find it a lot more handy. I've been shooting 1.5" groups at a hundred yards with my no magnification 1x Vortex Spitfire with 55 gr ammo, el cheapo steel case is shooting that too. I'm no expert marksman, so I'm impressed with this uppers accuracy. I'm still happy with my purchase.

My first purchase from Primary Arms, and this is an exceptional buy. I am completely satisfied with the Troy Industries product, and the customer service of Primary Arms. I am anticipating ordering another identical complete upper, as soon as lower is complete
Great upper came with upgrades!
Great upper. Got it on sale and couldn’t beat it! Mine actually came with a full auto BCG even though it says this comes with a AR15 cut. Beyond impressed with the quality of this upper. With only about 500 rounds through it so far it’s been flawless. Rail is very sturdy and the sights it comes with are some of the best on the market. They also came zeroed. I was surprised by that. If I need another upper will go Troy again!
great product, who makes the barrel?
by KRISTOPHER -
more of a question than a review, well both actually, I've been trying to find out info on who makes the barrel in this upper, so if anyone has that information it would be appreciated, secondly, my review. I slid this bad boy onto my spikes tactical calico Jack lower, with dpms parts kit, took him out to the desert and ran 500 rounds through him with no issues, 2 rounds failed to fire but I'm attributing that to faulty ammo. nothing but 1-1/2 inch groups at about 100 feet. shoots tight right out of the box. fantastic product. my father in law also purchased a palmetto state upper from you guys that runs like a champ as well.
Great upper for the money
by John -
Very nice just to keep things short is pretty light not much weight in the barrel I’m very happy with my purchase.
Nothing but good things from Troy
I love Troy uppers and their other products. Great quality, and if you can catch them on sale, better than great prices.

Superb quality with affordable prices (when on sale), got to love that.

I would love to see more Troy uppers on sale and in stock from PA.
Excellent quality, Great Service
by Willard -
I am building an AR Rifle as a fundraiser for a worthy cause. First thing is that this is a superb Upper. This is my second one of these to buy. Their subtle improvements from the first purchase is outstanding. A great upper. Secondly the service from Primary Arms. I ordered at 3AM on a Thursday, and had it delivered, on Monday Morning.
Happy with purchase.

Very high quality upper for the money. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the description had an error and this particular upper came with an M16 bolt carrier instead of an AR15 type. I much prefer the extra weight of the M16 carrier. The blind pin and weld to permanently attach flash suppressor for legal 16+ inch length was done very neat and is very hard to see. I would definitely recommend it to a friend.
