In the world of folding knives, few knives are as widespread as the M16. Created by famed knife designer Kit Carson, the M16 is CRKT’s most popular knife available. Its original purpose was to bring as many features and improvements as possible into an affordable carry knife. After countless years of abuse and constant testing, the M16 has withstood the test of time and become a mainstay in the knife world. All M16 knives come with Kit Carson’s impressive Carson Flipper, which speeds up the opening of the blade and provides a built-in blade guard. Still, there are a number of variants in the M16 knife line, so it’s important to note what differences exist between options. While the overall design may be the same, the blade steel, blade type, lock, and handles may differ.

CRKT designed the 14D knife as a larger counterpart to the compact 13SFG, maintaining many of its military-requested features but in a full-size profile. The difference is about an inch overall, so this is an excellent choice for those with larger pockets or harsher demands. This M16 configuration uses 8Cr14MoV Steel with the M16 locking liner. A titanium nitride finish protects the blade from sand, dirt, and all the abuses one would face overseas, while the G10 handles guarantee a strong grip even when slicked by water or oil. Due to the open design of this variant, CRKT was able to build two Carson flippers into the profile for a true hilt. This variant also features the dual grind Tanto-style blade design, which reinforces the point for greater puncturing capability. To supplement the point, the cutting edge comes with Veff serrations, a patented serration design that easily rips through rope, paracord, and other fibrous material.

This variant of the 14D comes with a non-reflective Desert Tan coat and G10 scales—perfect for dry environments.
