When designing the new Fortis Lightweight Enhanced lock nut and endplate system, the goal was to keep weight light and eliminate the use of complicated tools, wrenches, and ratchets. The K2 system uses a locking lever mechanism that seats itself through a slot on the bottom of the endplate and into cutouts on the castle nut. This ultra-precise fit allows the lock nut to be in place and locked in without staking the endplate. There is no ratchet, no set screws, and the K2 castle nut won't back out.

Perfect Locking Castle Nut System.

by -

I love these castle nuts. I've bought three of them so far. Super easy to install and remove. No need to use a torque wrench, just hand tight and then turn an additional 2 to 3 clicks. Just be extra careful when installing, depending on how sharp the edges on your castle nut wrench teeth are, you could scratch the nut if you slip. I'd suggest using Aero Shell grease on the buffer tube threads and only going to 2 clicks after hand tight, then leave it, it won't back out. Adding more muscle for that third click increases the risk of slipping or nicking the finish.
