The self-contained guide rod and captured spring components replace the traditional separate buffer and spring, reducing buffer spring noise and giving shooters more consistent bolt carrier movement in short-barreled or pistol configurations. Because the guide rod runs through the center of the assembly, this system requires a bolt carrier group with an open rear channel to accommodate it -- a standard solid-rear BCG will not work with this setup.
