The Auto-Ordnance 1911 A1 GI Spec (1911BKOW) is a single-action .45 ACP Government-size 1911 with a 5-inch 4140 carbon steel barrel, 4140 carbon steel slide machined from solid bar stock and heat-treated, matte black frame and slide finish, brown checkered wood grips, blade front sight, windage-adjustable rear sight, thumb safety, grip safety, firing pin block, and arched mainspring housing with lanyard ring. 100% made in the USA. OAL: 8.5 inches. Weight: 39 oz. Capacity: 7+1. Includes one 7-round magazine. Manufactured by Auto-Ordnance Corp., Worcester, MA.
Auto-Ordnance built their 1911 BKO to replicate the M1911A1 as it was issued to American service members during World War II, Korea, and Vietnam — the same company that produced the Thompson submachine gun for those same forces manufacturing the sidearm those forces carried alongside it. The 4140 carbon steel slide is machined from solid bar stock rather than a casting, ensuring a denser, more consistent grain structure and mechanical properties throughout the cross-section of the slide, then heat-treated to the hardness specification required for reliable performance over high round counts. The 4140 frame casting is similarly machined to the precise dimensions required for slide-to-frame fit. The arched mainspring housing is the 1911A1's primary visual distinction from the original flat-housed 1911 — adopted in 1924 after field reports indicated the flat housing shifted the grip angle to an unfamiliar position for soldiers transitioning from other service weapons. The brown checkered wood grips replicate the World War II-era grip panels that replaced the original double-diamond walnut grips when materials shortages led Army procurement to simplify grip manufacturing. The blade front sight and windage-adjustable rear provide serviceable aiming with the field-practical simplicity of the original military specification. The firing pin block is the single modern departure from pure GI specification — a passive internal safety not present on the original that prevents the firing pin from moving without trigger actuation.

4140 carbon steel slide machined from solid bar stock and heat-treated provides consistent material properties for durability over high round counts. Arched mainspring housing replicates the 1911A1's 1924 modification to the original flat-housed 1911. Brown checkered wood grips replicate WWII-era military issue panels. Firing pin block adds passive drop-safety to the traditional 1911 configuration. 100% made in the USA.
