The 16-inch 5.56 Hanson profile AR-15 barrel is another excellent product made by Ballistic Advantage. This barrel has many features that make it an interesting option for those wanting increased AR-15 barrel performance and durability. This barrel is made from 4150 Chrome Moly Vanadium which is known for its high durability, hardness, and stability under moderate temperatures like experienced during sustained semi-auto firing. Ballistic Advantage’s exclusive BA Hanson profile with a pinned lo-pro gas block. Compared to the original BA Hanson profile, this barrel has a .624-inch diameter while the original has a .750-inch diameter at the gas block journal. With this design, Ballistic Advantage decreased the barrel weight and achieved a thinner profile. This barrel has a 1:7-inch twist rate, a mid-length gas system, a 5.56 NATO caliber, and an overall weight of 22 ounces. The Hanson profile is built to reduce barrel whip and improve next shot accuracy and timeline. It requires the specialty gas block. This gas block is included pre-pinned.

Along with the other barrels in the company’s “Performance Series”, this product attributes some of its reliability to the Nickel Boron Coated Extended M4 Feed Ramp extension. The coating further enables the barrel breech interface to withstand everyday wear and tear with corrosion resistance and benefit from reduced friction. This barrel has a Bead Blasted Finish. The QPQ (Quench Polish Quench) nitride finish that Ballistic Advantage opted for on the exterior allows for moderate durability against day to day wear and tear, and good protection against the elements. The multi-stage finishing process improves aesthetics and corrosion resistance.

In its Performance Series, Ballistic Advantage has put the 5.56 Hanson AR-15 barrel through HP and MPI testing. During HP (High Pressure) testing, the barrel is tested internally with 70,000 PSI of pressure to assess how the barrel will hold under extreme stress. It can detect concerns at key failure points to ensure pass/fail quality assurance. With MPI (Magnetic Particle Inspection) testing, the barrel undergoes a process that detects discontinuities and inclusions in the material of the barrel.
