The Beretta 96A1 is the .40 S&W evolution of the 92FS, a full-size double/single-action pistol with an integral Picatinny rail, a cold-hammer-forged 4.9-inch barrel, and three magazines in the box.

The cold-hammer-forged barrel is designed to deliver accuracy out of the box. The integral accessory rail mounts lights, lasers, or both, and the pistol uses the open-slide design that helps clear stoppages. It weighs about 34 oz., measures 8.5 inches overall, and its magazines interchange with other 96 family magazines.
