The FN 509 is a striker-fired 9mm pistol built to the requirements of the U.S. Army's Modular Handgun System trials, in Compact, Midsize, Full Size, Tactical, LS Edge, and CC Edge versions.

The FN 509 builds on the proven FNS-C, with a polymer frame and a MIL-STD-1913 accessory rail, an ambidextrous slide stop and magazine release, interchangeable backstraps, front and rear slide serrations, and a cold hammer-forged barrel. Optic-ready versions use FN's low-profile optics mounting system, which accepts most commercially available red dots.

FN offers the 509 in Compact (3.7-inch), Midsize (4-inch), Full Size (4.5-inch), Tactical (threaded 4.5-inch), Compact Tactical (threaded 4.32-inch), LS Edge (4.2-inch and 5-inch), and CC Edge (4.2-inch) versions, in black, Flat Dark Earth, and Graphite PVD, with 10, 12, 15, 17, and 24-round magazines.
