The frame has no finger grooves, which lets users customize the grip width by mounting different backstraps to fit any hand size. The magazine catch is reversible and the slide stop lever is ambidextrous, and both can be changed at user level to suit left- and right-handed users. The Glock Marksman Barrel and nDLC surface finish round out the upgrades over earlier designs, and front serrations on the slide add grip when racking it.

Glock's Safe Action system uses three passive, independently operating mechanical safeties that disengage in sequence as the trigger is pulled and automatically re-engage when it is released.
