The G45 combines a compact-length slide with a full-size frame, giving users a fuller grip and more control than a compact pistol while keeping the slide shorter than a full-size model. The Gen 6 frame adds a palm swell, a thumb rest, and a textured grip surface that help the hand settle into the same position every time, and a flat-faced trigger gives consistent finger placement from shot to shot.

The MOS slide is machined to accept adapter plates, which allow a wide variety of red dot sights to be mounted directly to the slide without sending it out for machining. Glock's Safe Action system uses three passive, independently operating mechanical safeties that disengage in sequence as the trigger is pulled and automatically re-engage when it is released.
