A lot of shooters and gun owners who purchased or built their handgun from the ground up use the tried and true three dot iron sight arrangement. Many of us spend plenty of time at the range attempting to achieve better shot placement. While three dot iron sights are pretty good, the Holosun HE509 Powered Red Dot sight with ACSS Vulcan reticle is almost guaranteed to help you improve your accuracy.

This pistol sized Holosun Red Dot Sight straightaway allows for a large field of sight and has those features which allow you to sight in quickly and acquire the target and the location you intend to hit. What’s so neat about the Holosun HE509 is that the entire sight system is fully enclosed in light and rugged aluminum. Built to provide enhanced environmental protection and abrasion and shock protection, the HE509 Red Dot Sight protective housing stands head and shoulders above an open form reflex form factor.

Notes:

The adapter plate for the "-R" version is compatible with the most popular aftermarket slide cut in the industry. It is the same footprint as the Holosun 507C, making it compatible with most plate systems found on factory optics ready guns like the Walther PDP, S&W M&P C.O.R.E., CZ Optics Ready, Agency Arms AOS, FN 509 MRD, and Springfield Armory XDM Elite series handguns. It is also one of the most common aftermarket slide cut footprints.

The included 509 adapter plate is not compatible with ZEV or Shadow Systems style RMR interfaces.

The 509 ACSS model does not share the same footprint as the 509T (non-ACSS models) and therefore is incompatible with aftermarket mounting solutions and custom cut slides for the 509T (non-ACSS models).

The revolutionary patented ACSS Vulcan reticle provides a large circle guiding the eyes towards the 10 MOA center chevron, eliminating one of the biggest challenges for shooters new to slide-mounted red dots. If you are off-center, a portion of this outer circle will appear in the window to give you an instant reference on how to get centered. The circle phases out of the sight window completely when the center chevron is properly aligned in the sight window. This patent-pending reticle function significantly improves sight acquisition. It takes the common frustration of hunting for the center reticle out of the equation. Don't need the circle? It can be easily deactivated to extend the battery even further.

The Holosun HE509 Red Dot Sight uses Solar Failsafe™ technology to power the optic providing the shooter or operator with a consistent, and very reliable point of aim. Another feature you simply don’t expect with a lithium powered optic sight such as this is you don’t have to worry about turning it on or forgetting to turn it off.

The Holosun Red Dot Sight uses patented Shake Awake™ technology which senses motion to power the sight on and off. In addition, Holosun manufactured this little sucker with a brain that “recalls” your last setting and makes sure you don’t lose those customized settings once the sight system turns off.

Worried about battery life? The Holosun HE509 Red Dot Sight offers up to 20,000 hours of battery life. Simply put, we don’t think you’re going to have to worry about buying a new battery for this sight system for quite a while. All versions of the Holosun Red Dot Sight system are projected from the same LED, so you don’t have to worry about having to re-zero when changing reticles.

Altogether, the Holosun Red Dot Sight is a much better sight system for your firearm than traditional iron three dot systems. If you want to start hammering that 5X target to shreds and not only hitting what you aim at, but sending that shot exactly where you wanted it to go, The Holosun HE509 Red Dot Sight this is the sight system for you.

Great, finally an enclosed emitter with ACSS Vulcan

by -

Great optic with the even better ACSS Vulcan reticle which gives amazing feedback if your draw / presentation isn't perfect or you just get off the square range and life happens - the large circle immediately gets your dot (or in this case, crisp chevron) on target. The 509 has been beaten hard by some of the best testers on the internet, so I have no doubt it will hold up. Mounting plate worked to get it on an RMR cut slide, no problems. Controls / program is not hard to get setup. Another great PA / HS collaboration! Keep it up!!!

Game Changer but package could use two shorter screws

by

Just got one for my PSA Dagger 9mm with RMR cuts and love it. The only issue I had was the two crews that came with the HE509-RD were too long to fit properly out of the box and I could not figure out how to order the correct size screws. I ended up grinding off a little bit of the end of the screws and it seated properly then.

Looks Amazing, but the mounting options

by

This thing looks amazing, but it'd be really nice if it had a regular ol' 509 footprint. I want to get my slide milled for tight tolerances, but with the mounting plates that isn't really feasible.

Excellent Option, A Few Areas of Improvement

The reticle is genius and every handgun optic should use the same. Similarly, a fully enclosed emitter should be the standard. The glass clarity is good, and there is no noticeable distortion. The auto adjust feature is a tremendous idea, but only uses the top light sensor which means it is usually too dim for the given lighting conditions and doesn’t adjust appropriately when you are in dark shooting into light or vice versa. Similarly, the battery life sounds good, but in practice, the brightness level you will leave it at will sap the battery in a few months. This isn’t a huge deal, since the battery can be changed without losing zero, but it is annoying to have to change more than once per year. It’s definitely a buy, but I wish they had improved the battery life and auto adjust features. The solar fail safe does not work at all for me.

Just buy it!

This is probably the best MRDS around! Holosun, with their innovation and features, are leaving their competitors in the dust. The ACSS Vulcan reticle is AWESOME! Just buy it already and get rid of your RMRs and ACROs.

Excellent sight! Excellent reticle! The mount...

by -

This is my second Holosun mount, and they are my favorites. Followed by Deltapoint Pro, ending with Venom. However, the reticle on this one is absolutely genius. Very fast to get on target (faster than iron sights, I think). I like the Chevron. Use the tip at 20+ meters and the blob under that. The sight window is good. No inset glass that's hard to clean and collects grit. Great sight! Then, there'd the mount. My other holosun mounts to the gun on a standard plate. This one requires a plate and clamps to it. It's too high to co-witness, even with suppressor height sights, like my other Holosun. That makes it unsuitable for duty carry or as an EDC carry. Fix the mount, and this sight with this reticle will be the best on the market.

Great addition for carry gun

I put this on a 4" Walther PDP. This still fits in my Crossbreed IWB that was actually purchased for a PPQ. It IS pretty much zeroed at 25 yards when you get it. One thing I had to watch myself with this when zeroing, don't focus too much on the reticle. It was plenty bright in the Florida sun. Very easy to use, seems durable enough as long as you don't try to drive too many nails with it. Watch the videos about how the circle will help you align the gun to the reticle, it works.

The Tactical Rifleman sent me to look at this

by -

Not only does this work well but it seems like it will help me with centering up the sight just in presentation. Much more intuitive to use than hunting for a dot. Also, when you mount it and want to check zero, it's pretty much on at 25 yards OOB, so don't make any gross adjustments before shooting some groups.

Amazing

Love the reticle, fit, and finish. I have it mounted offset on a lpvo and works great. I just wish holosun would make a way to incorporate solar power into a manual setting to keep it bright all the time but not use battery when there's enough light. Not a negative - just a suggestion.

Would buy again!

Fantastic optic, but beware of the mounting plate

by -

Put this on my CZ P10C OR. It's an amazing optic that has changed the game for me when it comes to shooting accurately with a pistol. The ACSS Vulcan does exactly what it advertised and I do not find myself "swimming" to find my reticle.
I would give 5 stars, were it not for the description saying that the optic comes with a plate that can fit CZ Optics Ready models... But it doesn't. It does come with a mounting plate. But it is too small (gaps at the top and bottom of the optic slot in the slide), and the screw holes are not in the right spot for the OR slide. So, I had to find a plate to put on my slide so that I could fit the 509 ACSS adapter plate to my slide. Yep. Plate stacking. So now, my lower 1/3 RMR cowitness height irons don't even peek into the optic window. It's not a deal breaker for me, but it was pretty disappointing to open the box, expecting to head to the range with my fancy new red dot, only to find a plate that just flat out didn't fit my gun.
