Revolvers chambered in 38 Special can produce widely varying velocities depending on barrel length, and standard hollow points are notoriously inconsistent in short-barrel snub-nose platforms. Hornady Critical Defense 38 Special 110gr FTX is loaded to perform across that velocity spread.

The FTX flex-tip expansion mechanism doesn't depend on a minimum velocity threshold the way standard hollow points do — reliable expansion in a 1.875" snub-nose is engineered in, not assumed. The 110gr FTX initiates reliable expansion across a wide range of terminal velocities, including the reduced velocities at extended defensive and hunting distances. Nickel-plated brass eases chamber checks in low-light conditions and holds up better than standard brass during extended carry cycles.
