Hornady Critical Defense is a defensive handgun ammunition line designed for concealed carry pistols, featuring the FTX bullet with a soft polymer insert for consistent expansion across a wide range of velocities and barrier conditions.

The FTX bullet's polymer insert initiates expansion even when the tip cavity is clogged by heavy clothing, denim, or leather — conditions that cause traditional hollow points to fail. Nickel-plated brass improves visibility in low-light conditions and resists corrosion during long-term carry. Low-flash propellants preserve night vision during defensive use. Clean-burning powders reduce felt recoil in lightweight handguns and perform consistently across temperature extremes.
