The Leupold VX-Freedom 4-12x40mm CDS adds the Custom Dial System to the VX-Freedom platform — a customizable ballistic elevation turret that replaces generic MOA clicks with a dial engraved to a specific load's trajectory, allowing distance dialing without mental math in the field. The Leupold VX-Freedom 4-12x40mm CDS is a second focal plane riflescope with a 1-inch main tube, 40mm objective lens, Duplex reticle, and Custom Dial System elevation turret, finished in matte black.

The Custom Dial System works by replacing the standard elevation cap with a CDS turret dial engraved to a shooter's specific load — bullet weight, muzzle velocity, and ballistic coefficient — so the dial markings correspond directly to field distance rather than generic click values. The turret is easy to install at home and ordered directly from Leupold once a shooter has confirmed their load data. The Duplex reticle pairs naturally with the CDS approach: a clean, uncluttered reticle with bold outer posts and a fine center cross that stays out of the way when dialing to distance rather than holding over.
