The Zhukov Handguard is fully featured for the modern AK. Offering an extended option for modern shooting techniques, an aluminum chassis for strength and heat dispersion, a comfortable injection molded exterior for superior ergonomics, and M-LOK slots for optimized accessory attachment.
NOTE: Handguard counts as one US compliance part for 922(r). Installation requires permanent removal of the hand guard retainer and forward sling mount. Please ensure the barrel diameter under the handguard measures between 16.75 - 18.25 millimeters before cutting your retaining cap! Minor additional fitting may be required. Not compatible with Yugoslavian pattern rifles or RPK style receivers. Barrels less than 13” long are not recommended.

VEPR

The current design is for the AK 47 type rifle . these rifles have relatively thin barrels . This is my third hand guard for my VEPR's (762x39 and 2, 308 rifles 16", 23" barrels, Collector) To make the hand guard work you will need longer Round head hex screws. Call Magpul to verify size. I think they are 11/32 ,1" 1.25" ? 1/4" longer than screws provided.
Why did I wait so long to buy this?

Like the other reviews I also purchased this forearm to pair with my saiga rifle chambered in 7.62x39. I have been through a number of different handguards that have been functional yet felt as if they were not natural on my rifle. This forearm is rock solid and feels like it was purpose built for this rifle. I have put hundreds of rounds through since install and have not had any form of movement. This is the forearm I am finally happy with. Magpul does it again!
Dirty Saiga hole.

For once everyone else has to modify their guns to get this forearm to work, but not me! Fit great on my Saiga with no modification needed to attach. My only issue is that the forearm does not slide back far enough to cover our dirty little saiga hole on the bottom of the receiver. Not a deal breaker but with slight trimming you could make it dissappear. Awesome feel and amazing real estate. With being able to move my hold further forward I now have tons of room for a vertical grip and still swing out my mags. If you're on the edge and are considering I'm just going to say I dont regret it one bit. Best fit forearm so far.
4.5 star but 5 star, 4.75 star?

I say 4.5 star only because the clamping system they have along with aligning everything is not something you slap on and go. There is a bit of tighten and loosen to get it aligned correctly.
BUT!! it works great with my Saiga 7.62x39 with ZERO modification. I did not use the top handguard piece because the gas tube does not have a handguard. The rifle looks great and feels even better than it did before.
