Very accurate. No complaints here

Shoots .4 MOA at 100 out of Barnes Precision machine. AR. Usually better. It’s the best ammo I have tested to date with this rifle.

Very dissapointed. Poor muzzle velocity.

Bought 80 rounds of this ammo locally Saturday to test and ordered 800 rounds to use for tactical matches where we occasionally have up to 750 yard shots (typical 50yd -600yd). In testing the ammo with a Spike's 1:7 16" LE barreled upper with an Odin adjustable gas block I only averaged 2440fps & an SD 40 using a magnetospeed over 25 rounds fired. I tried 10 rounds through my daughter's 16" 1:8 PSA upper and averaged 2401fps. It was 102F out so I would expect a bit less velocity when it is cooler. It is advertised to produce 2790fps out of a 20" barrel. Only in their dreams. This is marketing hype B.S. as you only lose 25-50 fps per inch of barrel in .223. I saw another study showing they only got 2450fps from a 16" barrel and I should have believed it. Groups were OK probably sub moa (had a 12-15mph gusty cross wind so was not really trying after getting my scope dialed in). No issues shooting it once I dialed in the gas system. Will try this ammo in my 26" WOA upper to see what kind of velocities I can achieve but I am not too optimistic on the 2790 fps...

Good quality Mk-262 clone

by

Published velocity of 2790 fps is slightly more than the 2750 fps original Mk-262 (Black Hills 5.56 77gr OTM) which is cloned by many manufacturers including PMC. At least the Sierra Match King 77gr OTM bullet is the same as original; we have no idea what powder or load is in the clones. While actual velocity is probably way less than 2790, this is probably a result of running a load similar to the Mk-262 in a .223 case rather than the original 5.56 mm. I have read that while lower velocity, the .223 clones at lower pressure and velocity tend to be more accurate than when loaded at 5.56 mm pressures and velocity. So you have to decide which is more important, accuracy or velocity.

Velocity not as advertised, still exceptionally accurate

by

Update. After shooting 10+ boxes of the ammo head to head with SSA (Nosler) 77gr OTM I believe that velocity of PMC is not as advertised (that is why I gave it 4 stars now). Comparing to SSA 77gr OTM, PMC 77gr bullet is longer and more curved towards the tail of the bullet. This suggest from aerodynamic point that drag due to pressure should have been smaller for PMC than SSA (drag due to friction is not significant unless it is nuclear submarine) . Still at 200 and 300 yards I need to dope my scope more for PMC than for SSA and SSA claims velocity of 2450 ft/sec. At 200 yards if I zero in my rifle (18 inch rifle gas system) with SSA 77gr OTM, I have to add 2/10 of mill if I shoot PMC 77gr. At 300 yards difference is even bigger (still working on 300 yards for accurate doping difference). At 200 yards PMC is more accurate than SSA (0.7 vs 1.0 inch groups)

Extremely accurate ammo

by

This is extremely accurate ammo. I tested it this weekend with Armalite Ar15, 18 inch SS barrel, medium weight, 1 in 8 turn, Timney single stage competition trigger, Primary Arms 4-14x44 FFP scope. At 100 yards I was getting between 5/16 inch (~0.313) and 6/16 inch (~0.375) 3 round groups. Last week I tried SSA (Silver State Armory) 77-grain OTM with the same setting. I was getting from 4/16 inch (0.25) to 7/16 inch (~0.44) 3 round groups. I never measured velocity of this PMC ammo but accuracy is on par with the best I tested.
Than I proceeded to test the ammo with Spikes Tactical LE AR-15, 16 inch Mil Spec Government profile chrome lined barrel, 1 in 7 twist, Nikon P223 scope, and Velocity 3lb trigger. At 100 yards I fired multiple 25 rounds groups. They all stayed within 1 inch! Exceptional result taking into account my shooting skills that can be better.

Stellar Accuracy

Excellent ammo ..... Consistent 1/2" groups

Dissapointed. Very poor muzzle velocity.

I just tried it in my 26" WOA upper and it only shot 2617 fps from one lot and 2636 fps from a second lot (10 rounds ea). My hand loads with 24.5gr CFE 223 and 77 SMK in PMC brass shot 2803 fps with an SD of 20 from the same 26" barrel, same day, 77F outside. This ammo is not worth the money.
