Ratings & Reviews
Very good for the money

i am always looking for a great price to start a build, these uppers are great for the price, i now have 4 of them and they all work fantastic, with 62 grain 556 at 100 yards i have great groups with the 1/8 barrel. i do recommend heavier rounds, i did not have good grouping with 55 grain or lighter, 62 or heavier seemed to be the right direction. these units shoot as well as my uppers costing 2 or three times as much. the only thing i cannot say is how long they will last.
This Upper is a steal for the quality you get at that price.
I bought this upper for a project I was putting together. I wanted an 18 inch barrel with MLOK handguards since I had rifles in 16 and 20 inch. I was surprised how nice this upper truly. Well put together nice fit and finish. This is by far most accurate of my three rifles. The rifle hardly moves when firing thanks to the Brake. It is a bit louder, but it’s a very mild sounding muzzle brake. Very under rated for that price.
Glad I took a chance and purchased this

I have seen mixed reviews on this upper. A few months ago I decided to order this and give it a try... to be honest I'm impressed. I have not had one issue with it and it's a tac driver!
Is it a good upper or is it a lemon?
Some people below got a great upper, some seemed to get a lemon. I received mine very fast, as usual. (Thanks Primary) I looked it over and all appeared great; no scratches or dings. Generally, a good finish. One minor thing that kind of bugs me is that the muzzle brake is installed very tightly without a crush washer and it sits crooked. So tightly that I as yet haven't broken it free yet. No reason to, though, as it is only a brake and not a compensator so it doesn't mater that it's not on straight. Only aesthetics. My BCG and charge handle dropped in easily and it mated to my lower as if had come from the factory that way. So far, I've fired about 100 rounds through it without a jam, miss feed or any kind of issue. I'm shooting cheap Russian 55gr .223. Accuracy? Just fair so far. About 2" groups at 100 yards but it may be the cheap scope and rings that I picked up in a hurry or maybe the cheap Russian ammo. So far, I'm very happy with it.
All i can say is i wish there was a way to upload pics with reviews. After zeroing I placed 10 shots at 100 yards twice. Almost all my shots were in the bullseye and on top of each other. What a fantastic upper for the money. Accuracy is superb! I would not go to war with it but it's a great range and desert toy. And if I hunted varmints I'd have no problem using this. Almost zero recoil with the rifle gas. Very impressive!
It's on sale for a reason

I bought this on sale at a very good price, and I was familiar with Radical Firearms because I previously purchased a barrel for an SBR. This thing though... Like others have mentioned, the brake was not clocked and there is no crush washer. The gas block was not centered properly, and the gas block screws were not dimpled onto the barrel. The heads of mounting screws on the rail strip easily. The forward assist has an unsightly, exposed roll pin on the actuator. I ended up placing the barrel on an Aero M4E1 upper, swapped the brake for a Surefire Warcomp, and swapped the forend with another M-Lok model. I'll report back once I fire it, but I'm not expecting sub MOA groups.
Stay away unless you want buckshot patterns.
I am very familiar with the ar platform and am a reasonably proficient marksman. Using my rifle length lower complete with a RRA National Match trigger and this upper, 55 grain Federal ammunition patterned 4 inches. My match hand loads of Accurate 2520 under 75 grain match bullets shot dissapointly poor groups of 2 to 2.5 inches. I wasn't expecting an upper to shoot at Camp Perry, but 4 inch shotgun patterns off a rest and rear bag? Come on Radical.

This is a really great upper and I'm glad I purchased it. Had trouble cycling ammo at the beginning but Radical Arms has excellent customer service and took it back, fixed it and sent it back. The upper is very accurate and in no time I was hitting 6" inch iron at 400 yards.
No wonder it was on sale.

Within 2 minutes of inspecting this upper I found three things wrong.
<br>First there is a very large nasty scratch on the barrel by the muzzle break. Second there is no crush washer on the muzzle break so it is also over clocked. Third the Mlok guard is very cheap.
<br> But the worst part is this upper will not cycle. It has eaten every round I have tried to feed it. If it does feed the rounds jam so then I have too bump extract the round.
<br>Will be sending this one back.
Cool looking, good price, but lacks some quality
by Dan -
I got this upper on sale and while i find that to be a good deal it didnt come to me as a blemish free upper. Quality control didnt do its job and i define that next. On the upper their is several tiny ding/scratches that i can see small shiny aluminum spots showing through. Not a huge deal but theirs no reason for it. My biggest complaint is that they sent it out with the BMD Brake installed canted. Its not even close and i cant directly see a crush washer installed? Seeing as this is something i have to fix before shooting it just adds to my cost now as i dont have have any stainless crush washers in my scrap bin. I fitted it to a anderson lower and the fitment is loose between the upper and lower. I dont blame this upper entirely as it could be the lower but one or the other is slightly out of spec. I have other anderson lowers mated to other brands and i havent ran into this issue yet till now.
Good quality, incomplete assembly

Shipping was very fast but unfortunately I cannot give this a very good rating. Upon opening the box and inspecting the upper everything looked good except that I noticed that the gas block did not have any screws in it! Imagine if someone received this and just threw it on their lower and tried to shoot it. Dangerous. Wouldn't be good. Got into contact with customer service and all they could say is sorry and that they have so many uppers that they cant inspect every single one. Not very good quality assurance to me. But they did contact radical firearms to send me the hardware. And when I finally get the screws, I'm going to have to take the handguard off and correctly install the gas block. I personally would give this a lower rating but since they were responsive to my issue i bumped it up a little more. I will definitely have a lower rating for radical firearms for sending out incomplete uppers. Well see how long it takes before I can even shoot this.
Great price can't go wrong...

First of all Thanks everyone at PA place my order 10 minutes before cutoff time and still managed to send it the next day. Received my Radical Firearms 18" SS Wylde today very good deal more upper receiver for the price I missed their weekend sale so all gone, patiently waited until their back on stock. This will go to my new build my version of Cheap SPR.
<br>ps. Thanks for the Beanie hat just in time for the next cold front.
Execellent value, functions as advertised.

I have received a prize. This is beautifully executed and it works as advertised. NO under gassed anything. I had cleaned and added a bit of CLP to the bolt before firing. I put it on a DPMS lower this morning and burnt thru 30 rds with no problems at all. Would have bought more if I had the money.

I purchased this upper because I was looking for an 18" .223 Wylde upper for the obvious advantages of the Wylde chamber, the increased accuracy and velocity of the 18" barrel, and the improved cycling of the rifle-length gas block. This upper fit the bill without breaking the bank. I wanted to take my rifle being a primarily close-range carbine to an all-purpose rifle. I was even able to recover about 90% of the cost by selling my old upper, essentially breaking even!
<br>I've shot probably about 200 rounds through it and it has worked pretty much flawlessly so far. I had one malfunction early on, which I attribute to just breaking in, but it has been flawless after that. It seems quite accurate with Winchester white box 5.56, more so than with the .223, but maybe that's just me or the cheap .223 I was using.
<br>Overall, it was a great buy as far as I can tell without doing any crazy stress or accuracy testing.
Great Shooter for Low Cost
Got this upper back in June. It does shoot surprisingly well for the low cost. I’ve shot 55 gr and 62 gr bullets through it and was consistently hitting an 8” plate at 300.
Excellent impulse buy.

Bought this on an impulse on the last sale and I am very pleased. Finally had a chance to take it out last weekend to break it in, first time I have ever done that. Initially the bolt was not locking to the rear by about the 50th round it started to operate as expected (locking). My groups began to get smaller and I think the barrel is more accurate than I am. :) Looking forward to seeing what I can do with it. Delivery was spot on keep up the good work PA, saving up for an optic.
This is a very accurate and reliable upper, dont hesitate
Looks good but didn't cycle a new round
by P.S. -
I bought this two weeks ago. Upper looked good. Rail has aggressive corners and might be uncomfortable for some. It's not bad for my hands plus I added a Harris bipod so I won't be handling the rail too much.
<br>Upper looks good has a keyhole marking for those that care. Its heavy.
<br>Onto my rating.
<br>I swapped uppers on a poverty pony with PSA BCG which ran great with a PSA carbine upper.
<br>First shot it would not cycle a new round. It fired it just fine but I had to manually cycle a new round.
<br>I thought it might be an ammo issue. Tried 3 different brands including match ammo and still same issue.
<br>Not sure what to do now. I like the look of the upper but sucks it doesn't work. Perhaps an under gassed issue or a gas block misalignment.
This is a nice upper, the handgaurd leaves alot to be desired but the thing can shoot! I used to buy all BCA stuff but after getting 6 bad barrels in a row it was time to switch. It is a little under gassed but never a problem cycling. I would give it 4 stars but for some reason it won't let me click on the 4th star, the handgaurd keeps it from being 5 stars.
The Good and Bad on my example at least was under gassed
Would give it 5 stars for accuracy but had to do some enlarging of the gas port diameter to have it function as it should. As received had failure to eject spent rounds and jams, last round bolt hold open did not work at all. Removed the forearm and gas block, drilled the gas port to the diameter it should of been according to a port chart I found. That cured the problem, no misfires or jams and bolt hold open works. Cannot complain about the accuracy
