There are multiple styles of handguns, and firearms and weapons galore, but then there’s the Rock Island M1991 series from Rock Island Armory. So much tradition comes with this M1991 9mm firearm. Designed and produced for Rock Island Amory in the USA by parent company Armscor, a Philippine based manufacturing facility that is actually more loyal to the 1911 template than most.

  • Barrel Length: 5”
  • Barrel Type: Button Rifled
  • Capacity: 10 + 1 Rounds
  • Sight Configuration: Fixed

With roots going back as far as the year 1911 from the original Squires Bingham & Co. manufacturing plant that was forced to shutter its door during invasion and occupation during WWII, Squires Bingham and Co. opened its doors again under the Armscor banner in 1952 and has been producing handguns for American distribution ever since. Not only does the Armscor Company hold the contract for the M1991 handgun, but it produces guns such as the STI Spartan Cimarron and Auto Ordnance 1911 pistols. If you’re a fan of the 1911 series firearm this Rock Island M1991 G1 is a solid performer and is noted for having the most reliable performance, being the most affordable and the most well-made 1911 model firearm on the market today. The M1991 G1 is manufactured around the original 1911A1 format, often referred to a Series ’70 firing system. So if you’re a 1911 purist knowing the pistol contains either a firing pin or hammer drop safety adapted from the Colt Series ’80 firing system is a big plus. The thumb paddles are wide enough for easy thumb operation of the thumb activated safety and the upswept beavertail configuration allows for a closer grip to the axis of the bore, which minimizes the felt recoil. An additional feature of the beavertail safety is helping to prevent the risk of that nasty thing known as slide bite and improves accuracy downrange. Such a well built and classical piece, the overall Parkerized finish and wood grips gives the G1 M1991 a tactical, take-no-prisoners look which almost shouts old world dependability and efficiency. When it comes to target acquisition, the M1911 G1 also offers a low profile and snag-free sighting system. The GI M1991 offers a full-length sighting system although some doubt the effectiveness many shooters consider it a necessity for reliability and accuracy.Either way, it’s all about hitting what you aim at.The Rock Island M1911 G1 is manufactured from 4140 ordinance grade steel and built to last, providing the shooter many years of dependability and consistent round deployment. For the low price the M1911 G1 continues to be a solid workhorse you can count on.
