The mid-length gas system provides a smoother recoil impulse and reduced bolt carrier velocity than a carbine-length setup at this barrel length, and the DLC-coated barrel extension adds wear resistance at a critical contact point.

Note: this 14.5" length is ideal for pinned-and-welded muzzle device configurations to reach a 16" overall length.
