The standard AR-15 charging handle transfers force through a small roll pin when the latch is pulled — a design that works until the rifle is run hard, at which point that roll pin becomes the weakest link in the assembly. The VLTOR Mod 4 redesigns the pivot geometry to redirect force into the forged 7075-T6 aluminum body instead, removing the roll pin from the load path and producing a charging handle that survives the kind of rapid, forceful manipulations that break OEM handles at the worst possible moment. The roll pin itself has also been beefed up over standard spec, providing a belt-and-suspenders approach to the most common failure point in a standard charging handle.
The medium latch is optimized for fast manipulation alongside smaller optics — long enough to palm-blade and blade-tech reliably without the bulk of an extended latch that conflicts with low-mounted optics or magnifiers. The aggressive, non-slip front face provides positive purchase for rapid charging motions under stress or with gloves. Type III Class 2 hardcoat anodize — the same specification used on mil-spec AR-15 components — provides the most durable aluminum surface treatment available, significantly harder and more corrosion-resistant than standard Type II anodize. Forged 7075-T6 aluminum body throughout.
Platform: AR-15/M4, mil-spec. Material: forged 7075-T6 aluminum. Finish: Type III Class 2 hardcoat anodize. Latch: medium length, aggressive non-slip front face. Pivot redesigned to transfer force into body rather than roll pin. Roll pin upgraded over OEM spec.
Redesigned force-transfer pivot, forged 7075-T6 body, Type III hardcoat anodize, medium latch optimized for optics clearance — the VLTOR Mod 4 addresses every structural weakness in a standard AR-15 charging handle.
