So far - awesome with and without a suppressor

by

have two of them. One lives in a Spikes 5.56 build and the other in a PSA .300 build. Both function excellently, suppressed and I suppressed. The 5.56 is a mid length 14.5 barrel; the .300 is an 8.5 pistol length. Shooting unsuppressed, just leave these as normal on the unsuppressed setting, can even tweak the gas setting a little for hotter ammo vs more tame/underpowered stuff. I shoot suppressed with a DA Nomad-30, which produces some back pressure and rapid cycling unless the gas settings are reduced. In the 5.56 I use full suppressed setting for reliable cycling and for lower powered stuff MAYBE the second to lowest setting. For .300 AAC suppressed w/ same can: supersonic rounds need full suppressed setting, sub-Sonics need the full unsuppressed setting. I can switch ammo and all I have to do is change the setting, which I can reach through the ejection port. No disassembling or changing buffers needed.

Conflicted

If you have an overgassed or suppressed AR, this thing is awesome. If your AR is well gassed, this thing will not cycle. The reason is that even in the suppressed position, this thing already bleeds off a lot of gas. So when you use this with a well gassed barrel like a Criterion, it will not cycle.

The Suppressed setting should be like a regular BCG and bleed off the same amount of gas as a regular BCG. The other settings should then start to bleed off gas.

So if your AR is over-gassed, this is awesome. If it isn’t, then it will not work properly.

It was good to speak to you on this and appreciate teh clarification.

Awesome

I have had this BCG for 4 years now. It has well over 5000 rounds on it, almost all suppressed. It's been phenomenal and 100%. Recently I replaced the bolt with a BCM and the cam pin with forward controls (just because) nothing wrong with the original parts. I think the design of the carrier is one of the best ever made period. The interface surfaces on the carrier are cut similarly to the KAC Sand cutter BCG. The gas adjustment really works magic! The difference you can feel when adjusting it from suppressed to unsuppressed is vast. It makes your AR one of the softest shooting guns out there. Highly recommended!

Excellent solution that’s simple & effective

Running this in a 10.3 URGI that runs hard even unsuppressed with an H3 buffer. It would regularly rip the rim off steel case. Turned it into the flattest shooting, smoothest operating AR I’ve ever used. If you’ve run out of buffer/spring combos to try & don’t want to install an adjustable gas port this is your solution. Planning to eventually run these in all of my ARs I suppress.

BOOTLEG INC. GAS ADJUSTABLE BOLT CARRIER GROUP

by -

I recently purchased the Bootleg Inc Gas Adjustable Bolt Carrier Group for my BCM RECCE-14 which I shoot with a YHM Turbo T2 Suppressor. I had considered getting an adjustable Gas Block but that was not an option with my YHM Suppressor/Muzzle Adaptor being pinned and welded on to my barrel. I had heard a lot about Gas Adjustable BCGs and heard the Bootleg version was the best of the breed. After I received mine from Primary Arms, I inspected it and found it to be very well made and on par with my other Milspec BCGs. The Gas Key is proper staked (improved from the 1st gen model). I tested the Bootleg BCG on all 4 settings and with/without my Suppressor and the function was flawless and adjustments were super quick/easy. Blowback gasses were greatly minimized (near zero) and recoil on the full suppressed setting was like a .22LR. I can easily recommend the Bootleg BCG if you prefer to avoid installing and adjusting a gas block and enjoy the 4 setting simplicity of this design.

Great for suppressor use

by

The biggest benefit here is reduced gas-to-face. Makes a big difference.

I have 2 of these. One gun is suppressor use only, and I primarily use this for the gas-to-face issue.

Other gun has an adjustable gas system which is tuned for unsuppressed use. When I add a can (which causes harder cycling), I then flip the knob on the Bootleg to the suppressed setting.

The coating on the BCG is okay. It's not fancy, but it'll do.

Could not be more pleased.

Product is As advertised. Runs flawless on the suppressor setting or unsuppressed setting.

Bootleg-Gas Adjustable BCG

Excellent machine work and finish. Functions as intended. Helped tame the big gas produced by my 8.5” .458 SOCOM (yes I used my .458 bolt w/bootleg carrier).

I always use these adjustable BCG...

I exclusively use these great Bootleg adjustable BCGs for my builds. I'm always suppressed and these Bootleg BCGs work great with 5.56, 300 Blackout subs and supers, and 300 HAM'R. All function excellently.

I need a few more and ALL of my uppers will be properly equipped with adjustable BCGs.

Makes shooting my suppressed AR much more comfortable

I was pleasantly surprised to find that the gun ran well both suppressed and unsuppressed on the "U" setting. Gasses at the cheek weld were reduced in both configurations.
