Because it is machined aluminum rather than molded plastic, it holds its shape and adds a degree of customization to the muzzle. Remove it before shooting, as it is not a muzzle device.

Use it to keep dirt out of the threads and to protect the crown from dings in a range bag or holster. It fits any barrel threaded 1/2x28, including most 5.56 AR barrels and many threaded pistol barrels.
