Troy Industries stripped AR-15 upper receiver, precision machined billet aluminum construction with a durable and corrosion-resistant Hardcoat Anodized black finish. This upper is made in America from 6061 aircraft grade aluminum and features a slick design with no provisions for installing a forward assist, which gives the upper a slimmer profile, removing a potential point of mechanical failure, and maintaining a light weight and durable design. The hard coat anodized black finish meets MIL-SPEC. This stripped upper is an ideal match for a new AR-15 build.

Good but room for improvement

by -

I couldn’t use a handguard with anti-rotation tabs due to the extra material on the right side of the upper. If some clearance was made to match the left side it would be no problem (you can see it in the stock pics) I used a foxtrot Mike handguard instead since they don’t use rotation tabs. It’s narrower than the machined flares on the upper but isn’t too noticeable. The Troy handguards look like they will be a good match up for this receiver too.
Other than that the rest of the assembly went well. Had some dust on it when I received it and found a small blemish on the rear face but you can’t see when it’s all mounted up.

DO NOT BUY

Tried using this the base for a lightweight build but a BCG will NOT fit in the upper. Tried 4 different BCG's and none of them would fully slide in and seat. Terrible product.

Great deal

The quality appears to be very good and the price was great.

Great

This was exactly what I was expecting after reading the reviews. I have not finished the build at this point to thoroughly test them but from first impressions they seem like they are going to work fine for my use as some plinking rifles.

No issues

Went together with no problems, looks good also. Price was outstanding.

Follow up

Primary Arms customer service is top notch. They sent me the missing assembly and gave me a call that it was on its way. I really appreciate them sending me a card in the package apologizing for the mistake. Please take my 3 star rating down

Very nice upper

There’s been strange reviews with this. Just wanted to point out that, Troy/atf stuff aside, it’s a well made in spec upper.
Probably shouldn’t install a barrel with 60ft/lbs of torque on just the index pin, so I would recommend an MI upper receiver rod (not the Geiselle reaction rod) or a clamshell clamp for the upper.
The aluminum is the standard grade of metal so I don’t know, does not seem soft to me. The hard anodizing is very nice, does not feel cheap at all. Feels/looks like phosphate as opposed to a soft feeling, deep black you normally get, so in that regard, it might not match well with other lowers. Looks great mounted to an ADM UIC lower.
Only issue, personally, I wish they had slightly larger takedown lugs. They’re a hair undersized compared to an Aero upper, so there is a bit of side to side wobble. Tiniest of gap between my upper and lower.
Hope this helped, get out there and build, ladies and gentlemen!

quality lower receiver

Quality lower receiver. Barrel extension fights tightly, front and rear pins tight, square on lower receiver. Has dust cover provision, no FA. The finish is flat black, not sure what the other reviewers problem was. It's a quality item AFA billet receivers go.

My review of the Troy AR-15 Billet upper receiver

by -

I purchased this Receiver over the Thanksgiving Holidays for a ridiculous low price. Thanks PA. My goal is to build the lightest AR possible within reason. This stripped upper weights 6.1 oz. It Does Not come with a ejection port door already installed. There are T-marks and the word Troy lightly stamped in the top of the receiver. For the price I paid I'm a happy camper.

The Negatives.

1 - It's made from T6061 Aluminum and Not T7075. Probably a deal breaker for many but for my use I'm sure it will be fine.

2 - The finish is ok but not the best. It's a very flat black when most AR receivers seem to have a little gloss to the finish.

3 - Due to the way the front end is designed Handguards with Alignment tabs/nubs wont fit correctly on the ejection port side without modifications.
